Pagpupugay 2009-- Bringing National Artists Closer to the People

On its third year, Pagpupugay sa Pambansang Alagad ng Sining aims to bring living National Artists for Literature closer to students, teachers, and readers. A centerpiece project of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts and the UP Institute of Creative Writing, Pagpupugay 2009 will once again bring our national treasures to the heartland of the country where their works will be performed and they will be honored for their achievements and decade-spanning careers.

Edith Tiempo will go to the Nueva Vizcaya State University on August 10, 2009. True to the vision of bringing artists back to their hometowns. Pagpupugay will see Tiempo return to her native town of Bayombong after so many years. This event is ably coordinated by NVSU President Dr. Marilu Abon and the local government led by Mayor John Severino Bagasa.

For the other Pagpupugay legs: Virgilio S. Almario will have his day on September 2, 2009 (venue still to be finalized). Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera will speak at the CAP Building, Davao City on October 2, 2009. F. Sionil Jose will visit Bohol in November 2009 while the details of Alejandro Roces's Pagpupugay leg will be announced at the soonest possible time.
