Ilocano Writers at Mag:net Café

OMG! Members andofficers of GUMIL Filipinas, the country's biggest Ilocano Writers'Association with chapters overseas, are the featured artists in theAugust edition of the Open Mic Gig (OMG!), a monthly literaryperformance, at the Rock Drilon's Magnet Gallery in Katipunan, QuezonCity.

Performing live on August 30, 7:00 PM onwards, areveteran writers Juan S.P. Hidalgo, Jr., Dr. Paul Blanco Zafaralla, Ric Agnes, Prof. Honor Blanco Cabie, Linda Bulong, Aida C. Tiama, Jovito F.Amorin, Benn Cabacungan, Leo S. Fagaragan, Noli S. Dumlao and Rudy Contillo. They will be joined by younger writers including Ariel S.Tabag and Sherma E. Benosa, both officers of GUMIL Filipinas, Mighty C.Rasing, Dexter Biz, and Jake Ilac.

Hidalgo is a recipient ofGawad CCP for Literature, while Agnes is this year's recipient ofUMPIL's Gawad Balagtas for Ilocano fiction and drama.

Thegroup will perform various poetry forms in Ilocano, including dallot,pangorona a daniw (coronation poetry), daniw a para radio (poetry forradio), daniw a para ubbing (poetry for children), and daniw itiparparaangan. Dallot is an Ilocano poetry form that narrates a folkloreor epic, such as "Biag ni Lam-ang." This form is also used in pamamanhikan.
