‘Sa Amin May Sining’ is Quezon’s First at the GSIS Museum of Art
Kuta ng Sining, an art center formed in 2005 right in the heart of the province, that is Lucena City, is proud to present for the very first time 17 contemporary Quezon artists together in “Sa Amin May Sining”, an art exhibition at the GSIS Museum of Art in Pasay City on August 7 to 29, 2009.
Lucena City’s pride are Artemio Importante Bermido, Jr. who calls his paintings “Stimuli”; Buen Franklin Anthony Capulong Calubayan, one of the awarded 13 Artists of CCP 2009; Bianca Marquez who fascination with mosaics started in college and uses broken tiles, found objects and semi precious stones in her works; Monar D. Baldemor, son of internationally renowned painter Manuel Baldemor, and Jennifer San Agustin Sanchez, a practicing architect.
While Lucban is most famous for its Pahiyas Festival, it has also produced various artists like Noel P. Bueza who uses flowers, birds, human figures, and historical churches as expressive elements in his works, Erick Dator who utilizes the bright and vibrant colors of the festival in his paintings and Jowell Gaela who is also influenced by the colorful tradition of his native town. Other Lucbanin artists are Efren D. Nantes, son of the town’s known visual artist’s Vicente Nantes, and Mark Salvatus who is a free-lance graphic designer and illustrator.
